September Is Over

September is Over
It was the night that we broke the bottles against the ship
And the night that we took upon us to cross over it
And the night that we stood and watched the lunar eclipse
And if we don’t get it in the mail by noon..we’re doomed
It was the sound of the rushing water against the ship
And the sound of the popping bottles that we celebrate with
And the sound of our fears escaping and letting go of it
And if we don’t get it in the mail by noon, we’re doomed
And five roses up in the sky
And four pools of tears that I cried
And three miles up to the mountain
And Mont Sainte Hilaire on the horizon….say…
September is over
These are the words that we heard around us out in the wind
That we wrote and put into bottles to send messages with
And the things we were letting go of this lunar eclipse
Cuz if we don’t get it in the mail by noon…we’re doomed
And five roses up in the sky
And four pools of tears that I cried
And three miles up to the mountain
And Mont Sainte Hilaire on the horizon
And homeward before the eclipse comes
And forward before we forget
Something that we heard in the background
And Mont Sainte Hilaire on the horizon…say
September is over

Tornado Alley

Tornado Alley
All the water circling
All the wind that’s driving me
All the water on this street
It’s tornado alley
Windy days that April brings
Dust of all the memories
Seagulls flying out to sea
From tornado alley
And will you fly away
Just to save me one more day
Cuz when I’m so high in the air
I feel more alive than anywhere
I wrote so many songs for you
I tried to shine my beauty through
And I sung them for that special few
And that made them happy
I sang them all the special songs
I sang and they would strum along
But nothing with them lasted long
It was peaks and valleys
But it’s happening now
I am entering your dreamcloud
And I find you alive
Deep inside all the twisted air I find you
Tornado alley, I’m coming to you
Tornado alley, you pull me through
In every season, in sun or snow
Tornados will come and tornados go
….in every season, on every lake
Tornadoes will come, and our love is at stake
But I have shown I am strong
I have affirmed my resolve to soldier on
But what I lost from it all
Was the courage to open up my soul
And now I find you alive
Deep inside all the twisted air I find
And what I wanted the most
Was to hold on to more than your holy ghost
….in every season, tornado’s the reason
our love is at stake
Cuz all the water circling
All the wind that’s driving me
All the water on this street, it’s
Tornado alley…

Happy Song

Happy Song
I have come to write you a happy song
Songs about the world
For though tears may come, the sadness is done
I am such a lucky girl
For I have come to write you a happy song
Songs about the world
For though tears may come, they dry in the sun
I am such a lucky girl
For Dani knows the angels do grow
Around her windowsill
And when she sings, it brings me to something I know
Deep down as well
For when there’s suffering that I see
I recognize it well
When all we know is ‘hold on to hope’
But hope is hard as hell
Then I’ll write a song of suffering for you
For all the pain I see
I’ll write for you, I’ll pray for you too
Before I pray for me
Cuz love only as you must, love as you know you must
Love that will be returned, love as your heart has yearned
So bring me gold and frankincense
And please leave my soul in its suspense
Cuz when I met you on New Year’s Day
I knew you had come to show my soul a new way
Cuz I have come to write you a happy song
Songs about the world
For though tears may come, they dry in the sun,
I am such a lucky girl

Topography

Topography
It’s become a part of the landscape
It’s become a topography
It’s become a part of the way
That I think about the land and sea
It’s become a pile of emotion
Mile high of human debris
It’s become a part of the way
That I think of you thinking of me
And don’t run away from it
And don’t shy away from it
Emotion it is a gift
Our bodies were built for it
But you broke off a piece and floated downstream
Broke off a piece and floated away
Broke off a piece and floated downstream
A piece of the iceberg lost in the sea
And so we chip away at the stories
Leave ‘em out to soak up the rain
Let ‘em dry in the sun to become
Solidified again
And they become a part of the landscape
They become a topography
They become the mountains we climb
That erode then slowly into sea
And don’t run away from it
Erosion it is a gift
The earth it was built for it
These scars that pass over it
But you broke off a piece and floated downstream
Broke off a piece and floated away
Broke off a piece and floated downstream
And now there is an empty hole…
And don’t run away from me
And don’t shy away from me
You are my topography
The earth it is you and me
But where do the pieces go when they flow downstream
And do dreams help make them whole
And how can I retrieve all the pieces that broke
Cuz now there is an empty hole in the water
And now there is an empty hole in the mountain
And now there is an empty hole in my soul
But I don’t really notice it anymore…
…see what you can do with it…
